Cold.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
Seattle

It was 9° when I left for work this morning. That's 9°F, not 9°C.

The cold this year has been affecting me more than in years passed. Normally I'm a furnace, but I don't think I've actually felt warm since Saturday at this point (scalding showers notwithstanding).

I'm cold at home; I'm cold at the office; I'm always cold.

The constant cold distracts me from working, and believe me, I don't need that much of a push.

For someone who grew up in the American midwest, sensitivity to cold is a rather terrifying thing. I remember quite distinctly walking miles over drifted snow in the city after a blizzard with no hat or gloves. How have I gotten so soft?

Had your thyroid checked lately? I was always the guy who was out in short sleeves in the snowstorm too, until my thyroid blew out, and then I suddenly became capable of becoming hypothermic in July.

Going through what you are right now because they lowered my dosage too far (again). Cold. All. The. Time.

I believe it is just age, my friend.

I haven't *quite* started working in a coat, but it is close to coming to that.

Cold

I think this happened to John as well. When he lived in Memphis as a teenager, he never got cold, but after being in Seattle a few years, maybe something happens. do weee!

The weather outside is FRIGHTFUL!

It's not your age, it's the acclimatization. I grew up in snowsuits, too. Not quite a Chicago winter but NY isn't exactly MILD in the winter either.

Also...I'm not turning the heat up in the house. Bad enough it kept coming on and off again today because it was trying to keep the house temperature at 55.

Remember in the Summer we would KILL for 55 inside!

However, 9 degrees is crappy -- I will agree. I went out with my glasses on and my face bundled and couldn't see through the glasses cause my breath kept fogging them up. This is my first winter with glasses on full time. How do people bundle and wear glasses?

Anyway... I have hot soup waiting.

It's 33 degrees F in Chicago. Snow is softly falling and it is really pretty outside. Woolen vests really keep you warm this time of year. Hot soup and tea also do wonders. ??? I'm just now learning about the no hat and gloves!!

A cat and a hat while you type

Cats on laps are a warm spot of hope and contentment. When your feet are cold, put on a hat... and mitts...and socks...and start exercising. When I lived in Germany, there was a Seattle-like damp chill that settles in your joints. I thought I'd never be warm again. At work, I invested in several "throws" that look like fancy shawls but much cheaper and double as lap robes or wraps and look nice tossed over a chair. A Disney Princess blanket is the same convenient size but would detract from your professional credibility.
