I Disagree

So there's a bit of good news on the UAE ports deal. Lest anyone feels the urge to engage in some irrational exuberance, I will remind you of some other things perpetrated by our government in the past week or so.

Congress reauthorizes the USA PATRIOT Act

And hey kids! This time parts of it never expire! Not to mention, as the article says, "Some critics of the final legislation contended that it gives too much power to the executive branch." No kidding.

Congress ignores the fact that the President broke the law

How does this even make sense? The President ordered wiretapping, illegally neglecting to notify the Congressional committees and Courts specifically set up to monitor this sort of thing. The Congressional solution? Well, rather than conduct an investigation, they're setting up another oversight committee, presumably so the President has somebody else he can ignore.

Torture?

We know they torture prisoners, but we'll continue to send them people we've captured. Provided they promise to play nice, of course.


There's more, but it's just making me depressed.

The President thinks he's a king, and Congress is just rolling over for him.
