It's about time, yes? Now if they could just get the replacement designed, paid for, and built. Oh, wait. The Bush administration cancelled that project just after they started their second war.

Priorities, people. Priorities.

What if "They" just pushed the program out of "public" radar, to build the new one solely for military use??? huh, huh, yeah! :) So, how about the annual camping trip? when? where? any ideas?...

Dunno, but I'm certainly game.

Who is supposed to be organizing it this year? (and hey - can I get a lift?)

Darkphilodox is organizing, I'm just "lighting fires" here and there to help things along, and i would assume transportation can be arranged...

Best use a flare gun to light that fire, then! I'm going to need a couple of weeks' notice, so he'd best get off his duff.

You hear that Charles? Hello?

on the radio today they were following the launch and when it was over and the shuttle was up they were touting "the US return to space,no the worlds return to space"

who do they think has been supplying the shuttle for the past 2 years? do they think we are the only ones in space? theres a reason it's called the "international" spacestation.

but it is radio morning disc jockeys.

I think most people think that not only were Americans the first in space (which, of course, they weren't) but that they are the only ones in space (which they have never been).

Back in the 60's, after the successful moon landing, Wehrner von Braun documented a plan to go to Mars. It was a huge plan, involving building the ship in Earth orbit, taking everything we'd need with us, two years of surface excursions in manned rovers, insanely expensive, and eventually laughed out of congress for costing WAY too much money.

For what we've spent just on Iraq since our most recent invasion, we could have done it three times.

Or, for the same money, we could have built a space elevator, at five times the highest estimated cost, and had enough left over for two permanent Mars colonies following the Zubrin plan.

It's enough to make you cry.

Priorities, indeed.
