I've gone and joined the dark side.

After being subjected to noisy gossip from cellphonelady on the #41 bus, I was terrorized by deepbassleakingfromtheheadphonesguy behind me on the #347 bus.

I was trying (and largely failing) to write.

Enough is enough.

I bought an iPod shuffle.

But seriously: if your shuffle doesn't come with some kind of case or sleeve, it's worth while to invest in one. It's a nasty sensation when one hits the floor unprotected.

Given that I listen to NPR all the time to drown out my immediate surroundings and/or give my brain something maybe constructive to chew on, I can't fault you for doing the same. I just take off the headset when dealing with strangers. Otherwise I just turn it off as needed. Many people are preferable to broadcast, but many aren't.
