My cat is licking his own shadow.

It seems like that should be a portent of... something.

The only time a cat's behavior is truly odd, is when it is not odd.

Steve's cat likes to fetch a paintbrush. It's her favorite toy, and she'll carry it around like a kitten. We don't ask.

I stopped at Priest Point Park yesterday to hang out in the trees for awhile before going to work, as I finished rolling a cigarette I noticed a gathering of Crows about 15 yards away on a sunlit grassy hillside. There were six of them arranged in a circular formation, all facing towards center(10 ft across, maybe.), squatting down with their wings flared along the ground and their heads tilted back, head feathers flared and beaks open. There was also another Crow standing near by for each squatting one with a few others besides. Do Crows do group sex? Dunno! They all flew away as a car went by and I was trying to get out of my old noisy truck, then I noticed two that stayed in a tree nearby to watch me smoke. Wyrd...

Ah, but were they crows or ravens?

It's entirely possible, in fact, that what you stumbled upon was a secret meeting of the Cabal of Ravens Occulting Wisdom (C.R.O.W.). You're lucky you weren't enchanted...

The birds not in the circle were, of course, assorted secretaries and interns.

Ravens

I wondered that myself. The thing that keeps me on the side of them being Crows is that they all had small "Crowlike" (meaning pointy) beaks, while Ravens have larger beaks that have a curve to them. Oh, and when they flew away they used Crowspeak and not Ravenspeak... unless that's a tactic of misdirection employed by C.R.O.W.!?!

Maybe it was dirty.

That or you need to feed the poor thing more often.

Beware of invading Romanian midgets wearing Star Trek red shirt uniforms, wielding olive skewers, singing The Funky Cold Medina when you see your cat licking his own shadow.
