Even though you are holy
you have a mysterious past.
You aren't married.
Have you taken a vow of celibacy?

Haven't seen much of the series, but it feels right. Except for the celibacy part. I hope.

The film reminded me suspiciously of the old Traveller RPG. Same flavour, same world view, same feel.

Of course, I like Traveller quite a bit as it was the first RPG I ever ran. You've got to love a future history that starts out like this...

In the mid 22nd century, settlers in the asteroid belt invented a new engine that would take them to the nearest star in something under a week. When they got there, they were surprised to discover that the planets there were populated by colonists from a civilization vastly older than theirs. A Human civilization, Homo Sapiens sapiens.

And they were Black.

Fast forward three thousand years, sprinkle with Asimov's Foundation series and large calibre weapons, and voilá! Traveller.

I ran into the actor who played Shepard recently.

Yeah, from what I've seen of it, Firefly and Farscape have a lot in common with Traveller. I'd reccomend both serieseses. Especially Farscape. It's a wacky-ass show with frantic plots and great characters.

I have heard good things about Traveller--I must get it. I'm a fan of the Foundation series too, so, even better

My friends thought I was the Shepherd Book of our circle

Traveller has gone through several iterations over the years. Despite its obvious age and the less-than-sophisticated rules set, the original is still the best.

They're reprinted it recently as a series of oddly-sized paperback books.

i agree about traveler

I'm glad someone else gleaned this, because my immediate reaction to Firefly when I first saw it was to compare it to Traveller. In fact, one of the great campaigns I played in was one in the Spinward Marches where we pretty much did what they do -- smuggle, take on jobs, and float around beyond the reach of the Imperium. That was ten years ago.

I really, really miss playing Traveller sometimes.

I forget the name of the guy who created Traveller, but my uber-gaming geek friend told me that he said that "Firefly is Traveller with the serial numbers filed off."

Book is cool. A good match.

done one of these before...

and surprise... surprise...(Gomer style) I came up as Jayne Cobb at 90%, Derrial Book and Alliance placing 2nd at 50%, and Capt. Malcolm Reynolds in 3rd at 40%... I highly recommend watching the series "Firefly", I think you would truly enjoy it!...
